This is a post for the Cappies about the work I have done as promotions manager.

Hello, my name is Mya Johnson and I am the promotions manager for the Redeemer production of Around the World in 80 Days. For the past couple of months I have worked to promote this play in our community and was in charge of the media relating to the play. The following are some examples of the work that I have done:

1) Social Media Coverage

I was in charge of making sure that social media was updated with information about the play and photographs that I took. I sent photos and updates to Mrs. Dentz, who is in charge of our Facebook page and newsletter. I also sent photos to Sarah M. who posted about the play on the student council Instagram page.

2) Photographing Rehearsals

I have photographed several rehearsals over the past few weeks, ranging from the early stages of practicing to behind the scenes photos of our crew in action. I then used these for the blog, put them on social media, and will keep them for future use in the yearbook and/or the school website.

3) Drama Blog

I had lots of fun updating this drama blog with performance information and some of the photos that I took over the weeks. I hope that people enjoyed the opportunity to see behind the scenes of the play and watch the progress of the rehearsals. Please look through the blog to see some of my posts.

4) Media Arts

I was in charge of organizing the media arts involved in the play. I worked with the media arts class, as they made the glam shots that are displayed in the gym. Madison M, a media arts student, made the promotional posters that were hung in schools and churches around the community. I tasked grade 12 student Sydney L. to design the tickets because she wants to be a graphic designer, and they turned out beautifully. The last thing that I did was design the program for the performances.

Opening Night Tonight!

Opening night tonight is SOLD OUT!!! This is such great news! Thank you so much to everyone who already bought their ticket. I hope you enjoy the show! 

For those of you who have not yet bought your ticket, do not despair. There are still a few tickets left for the performances Friday at 7:00pm and Saturday at 2:00pm. Act fast before they are all gone. You can get tickets by calling or emailing the school office. 

This really will be a fantastic show! I have witnessed first-hand how hard the entire cast and crew have been working on this. I wish everyone involved good luck tonight. 

Grade 7/8 Dress Rehearsal

The grade sevens and eights from our feeder schools came to watch our dress rehearsal today and it was a major success! There were lots of laughs and I heard that some of them appreciated the romance as well. Everything went smoothly and there is still one more rehearsal tomorrow before opening night on Thursday. Please buy your tickets now for one of our three performances. Tickets can be purchased for $15 for adults and $10 for students at the school office. Behind the Scenes

One week until opening night! So, what is going on behind the scenes to put on this play? There are a variety of crew jobs that had to be fulfilled in order to pull off the performance. Here is a list of all the jobs and what they involve:

Director: The director is the mastermind behind the production. Our director, Ms. Visser, supervises everything relating to the play, from rehearsals to keeping track of the crew's progress. She also tells the actors what to do. They are not simply saying their lines, they have to know how to say their lines, what to do with their bodies, and which side of the stage they should be coming from.

Stage Manager: The stage manager is second in command to the director. They also supervise and keep track of everything involving the play.

Set Design: These people design the set. They plan out and help make the back drop and the structures that will be on the stage.

Set Construction: These people know how to build things and they construct the set, and in our school's case, the entire stage.

Props: Almost every scene requires some prop in order to make it realistic. Props people have to find all of the props, keep track of where they will be used in the play, and make sure the actors have them at the right times during the performances.

Costumes: The costumes in the play really bring the story to life. They help set the time period and place that the characters are living in. Costumes people have to gather bits and pieces of clothing and then bring them together to form the complete look. They are also in charge of helping the actors change into the right clothing during the performances.

Hair & Makeup: The people in charge of hair and makeup have to plan in advance what the characters are going to look like for the performances. During performances, this involves enhancing the actors' natural beauty, matching their hair to the time period, and in our case, making our female actors look more like their male characters (there are only two female characters in this play).

Lights & Sound: Lights and sound are important for setting the atmosphere of the play. The lights tell us what time of day it is. In our play, we have many important sounds such as trains, the ocean, storms, and gun shots.

House Manager: The house manager is in charge of the presentation of the play and the school during performances. They are in charge of the ushers, who show people to their seats, and the refreshments during the intermission.

Promotions: This is me! It is my job to tell people about the play and I am in charge of the media involving the play. I will be posting next week for the cappies critics about what I have done for promotions for the play.

Tickets are now on sale! Two weeks until opening night and everyone is getting ready. We are now practicing on the actual set so here are some pictures for a sneak peak. Set design did such an amazing job! Props are almost all set to go, and we were practicing with lights and transitions today after school.

Preparations for the Play

Hello!

There is just under one month until opening night of the Redeemer production of Around the World in 80 Days! The cast and crew are getting very busy as we get closer and the cast are now practicing four times per week. If you were wondering how the cast prepared for their roles, they each filled out a character development sketch to help them get to know their character and how exactly they fit into the story. Currently they are busy memorizing lines and movements. 

I also have updates from the crew on how their preparations are coming along. Set design is going to begin painting the set on Friday. Costumes are on track and looking beautiful. Plans for the light and sound for the performances are in the making. Promotions will be taking pictures on Friday of the main characters for our posters. Everything is going well and we will be ready to go by opening night! 

Tickets will be on sale at the beginning of April and will be $10 for students/children and $15 for adults.

RCHS Play 2017: Around the World in 80 Days!

This year Redeemer Christian High School will be performing the play Around the World in 80 Days!

This play tells the story of Phileas Fogg, who makes a bet that he can travel around the world in 80 days. Fogg, who will be played by Thomas, is joined in his adventures by Passepartout (Nathaniel) and Aouda (Mary Ellen). The three race around the world trying to make it back to London before the eighty days are up. To make it all the more interesting, Detective Fix (Samuel) mistakes Fogg for a bank robber and follows him on his journey.

The performances will be on April 20th and 21st at 7pm and April 22nd at 2pm. Keep checking the blog for more information about ticket sales.

The cast and crew are already hard at work getting ready for the play so please don't miss your chance to see a great show!
